The 3 Choices

Art movement: Outsider Art
Reference Artist: Musgrave Kinley
Series:  Society & Culture

I choose the society and culture series because it is one of the thing that we always do, learn and observe but at the same time we didn't take note about it. Problems that often came out in society might as well turn into a culture which happens to be our daily habit such as the way we eat, our time management, and even what we do everyday may affect what we're becoming in the future. What i sketch is actually based on my observation, very general and i didn't only focus on any one particular problems that i see which occurs in society, but also what society and people always do in their everyday life without even noticing it. We may take actions to prevent these problems before it became more serious, but sometimes these needs has controlled us from realizing it.

This sketch is very familiar to most of us because it is what we do in our everyday life. The first thing that i can say about this sketch is that we ourselves have this habit without noticing it. We spent most of our time day and night facing computers or other media in order to finish our daily works, tasks or even to relax ourselves. Other than that is we always don't have proper time management and focus whereby when we are doing our work, at the same time we might think of doing other stuff and vice versa. At last, we might end up being too tired or maybe can't even get our task done correctly.

This sketch is about fast food culture that also happens to be a problem in society. Everyone is talking about healthy lifestyle or how important we have to take care of our eating habit but what we always end up is that we make excuses as we don't have much time and had to go to fast food restaurant to get our food. This is one of the problems that occurs in the society that has becoming a culture.

This is one of the sketch that i personally like the most because i always relate it to myself and everyone in society. This problem always occurs whenever we're already out in society. It is basically means that when we are all in a society, we can mix or mingle with everyone and at the same time we are learning to find our true self. In life, we have a turning points and when we meet it, we have to make our own choice and decision to move on with our own life. If we didn't do so,we might be someone who always follow others footstep.

I choose You, Outsider art :)

A brief explanation of the Outside Art
There are few artist that uses different explanation and definition given to the outsider art. The art is normally created outside the boundaries of official cultures, making the artwork fully expressed by the creativity of the artist itself. Most of the outsider art movements artist were never known until they were dead as they never go through mainstream style or even went to art institutions for any special education in order to produce their artworks. Outsider art were normally "naive" as most of it were based on illustrations of extreme mental states, unconventional ideas, or elaboration of their own fantasy, and have a special term~the art of insane.

According to Roger Cardinal, a piece Outsider art can also be known as art brut or raw art.
Jean Dubuffet, a French artist discovered the outsider art from the piece of arts which were produced by the insane-asylum inmates.

One of the famous Outsider art were created by a mental patient, Adolf Wolfii who were in the 1920's taken care by Dr. Walter Morgenthaler. He spontaneously uses arts to calm himself when he was in the insane-asylum and already created a lot of outstanding artworks based on his imaginary life stories. Other than spending time on major artwork, he also made a lot of smaller piece of arts which were used as a gift or even to be sold.
This is one of the famous artwork by Adolf Wolfii which is called "Irren-Anstalt Band-Hain

 Musical Annotations by Adolf Wolfii

Regardless of the so-called art of insane, the changes in generations had brought the art movement to the next level. Some of the artworks emphasize the dramatic movements away from the culture of the past. Such as Marcel Duchamp who doesn't focus on painted artwork but like to re-contextualize an existing object as his artwork.
One of his famous artwork is the Duchamp urinal, as shown below.

There are more artist who uses Outsider art movement as their ways to produce their art. For me, i choose this art movement because i don't seems to be good in any realism artwork which needs more focus to produce one, so i rather choose the one which go through more on creativity and own fantasy in order to produce an art work. :)

Perceptual vs. Conceptual Art

For what i've known so far, everything that we see through pictures, drawings, items or what we can see with our eyes can be called arts, just in different ways. Two of the most common used art movements are the conceptual art and the perceptual art. Both these art movements are not realism as in context, perceptual arts are more to the outcome of a sensory whereas conceptual arts are the outcome of a thought.

Perceptual arts can also be known as perceptualism which means that the arts itself contain the mixture of philosophical explorations of art and psychology elements. Most perceptual arts are created in a form of multi-sensory experiential for the observer to interpret it in their own ways. These are few examples of the perceptual arts.

Conceptual Art can also be said as the contemporary version of arts.
~In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art. ~ Sol LeWitt

It is different than the concept art which is created only to display an idea whereas the conceptual arts concerns on the principle of the idea and then then objects. It also means that the artwork came from the ideas and later on displayed with variety of ways based on negation of aesthetic fundamental.
Examples of conceptual art:
